Being the type of basketball fan I am this scenario runs through my mind how would certain NBA greats do in today’s NBA? So I’m just gonna dive into this with both feet and start with the obvious which is how would Michael Jordan do in this NBA?
Let’s begin with the obvious which is the way defense is played which would be in Jordan’s advantage without question especially since it’s a lot of hands off non physical style which Jordan would have his way offensively. Jordan’s highest scoring season was 37 ppg in the 87-88 season (thank you basketball reference) when defense was intense.
Based off Jordan’s stats I feel confidently that Jordan would average 40-45 ppg shoot 60% from the field, 35% from 3pt range and 93% from the free throw line. Not to mention 7 rebounds,5 assists and 2 steals a game. That stat line is MVP caliber no question and he would dominate the modern game. Jordan would be superior to many superstars like James Harden, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook.
The only 2 stars that may give Jordan a run for his money is Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James which would be some of the more awesome duels in basketball history. There are other NBA greats that would excel in this NBA like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robertson, Julius Erving to name a few which lets the imagination run wild with “what if” and how exciting the possibilities would be.
But it also reflects on how “easy” the offensive part of the game has gotten, regardless the idea is nice to think about.
