Round two of the NBA playoffs is under way but there are some huge questions about some of the losing teams from round 1 and what should they do next to be the contenders. So, let’s us start with the most surprising loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks
The Bucks came into the playoffs as the number one overall seed and were heavy favorites to make it to the finals for the east, but instead they lost the series to the 8th seed Miami Heat leading to a several questions that have been lingering for a while.
I’ll begin with the biggest issue and thankfully was addressed with the firing of Mike Budenholzer, who did win a title in 2021 but some of his coaching flaws were becoming too much to ignore particularly lack of in game adjustment and a non-effective half-court offense which was spotlighted in this series. Finally moving from him opens the door for someone fresh to come in like Nick Nurse or Frank Vogel could be the fix that’s needed to get them back to title contention.

There are a couple of other things to factor in and look out for, for example simply admitting defeat and getting whatever, you can value wise for Khris Middleton who has not been a good second star player to Giannis. So maybe it is time to shake stuff up with not only Middleton but other parts of this roster and get a better cast around Antetokounmpo before he becomes disgruntled, which leads me to perhaps the most concerning thing for the Bucks and their fans is whether Giannis decides to leave or not?
Currently in the peak of his powers Antetokounmpo would be in his right to express frustration and demand a trade somewhere else or put some pressure on the front office to adjust and remain title contenders, so just keep an eye on how things unfold in Milwaukee in this summer.
The Grizzlies
We now get to the most polarizing team that in a brief time went from the likeable, young, exciting team to the most hated, despised and obnoxious team that hasn’t won anything. Memphis has such a good young core that can be contenders for years to come but once again they talked a big game and did not back it up with losing to Lakers in six games not with some glaring issues that caused the loss and need to be addressed ASAP!
Dillon Brooks is the biggest thing that NEEDS TO GO if this team has true title aspirations. Brooks and his idiotic antics, lack of self-awareness and detrimental acts offensively have ran its course and hopefully will not come back this summer, his whole wannabe bad guy wrestler, cheap Draymond Green act did nothing but hurt this team across the board from cheap shots to openly trash talking one of the greatest to ever play the game led to their early exit so I wonder if you can fly to China direct from Ontario or Memphis because I don’t see most NBA teams clamoring to sign Brooks and his antics.

The other thing that is two pronged is moving on from Taylor Jenkins as coach and getting some grown up professionals in this franchise to live up to their amazing promise. Jenkins may be a solid X and O coach, but he is the quintessential substitute teacher that the rowdy class runs over, which is exactly what is happening in Memphis. This summer the franchise must make legitimate changes up and down the organization to right the ship and stay on the track they are on to be potential contenders which means letting go Jenkins and bring in a tougher coach, front office and players that will command accountability and professionalism with this young core.
