The summer is underway and the NBA free agency was absolutely insane. A ton of new faces in new places and the landscape of the league has changed to say the least. With that said here are my winners and losers of this summer’s free agency.Winners
Los Angeles Clippers: I’ll start with the obvious and that’s the LA Clippers, who very quietly pulled off a huge heist in signing finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and Paul George via trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder making them immediate favorites to win the title next season.Indiana Pacers: 1 of a couple teams that had a quiet but successful summer were the Indiana Pacers. Indiana unfortunately lost their stretch wing player Bojan Bogdanovic to the Jazz but in free agency signed guard Jeremy Lamb and Michael Brogdan along with forward T.J. Warren through a draft night trade, which makes the Pacers seriously contenders for next season.J.J. Redick: The New Orleans Pelicans have had a positive off season after the Anthony Davis saga. One of the Pelicans many good moves was sign veteran shooter J.J. Redick, who will do wonders to that young Pelicans roster making them 1 of the more exciting teams to watch next season.Losers
Los Angeles Lakers: We return to LA to begin the losers part of this and with the historical Lakers and them striking out this summer. Although they finally acquired Anthony Davis this off-season at very heavy price on their future, the Lakers had their eyes set adding a 3rd star to join forces with Davis and LeBron James.Unfortunately that did not happen as big name free agents like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard all went to different places. Which now leaves the Lakers scrambling to add less than desirable names for Lakers nation, which leaves a lot of questions to be answered for the Lakers this upcoming season.Brooklyn Nets: Now this next selection for a loser this offseason will be considered a“hot take” but this only because it affects this team next season! The Brooklyn Nets were obvious winners this off-season with the signings of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving making them major title contenders in the future. But next season could be a disappointment with Durant missing the entire season recovering from a major injury, leaving star point guard Kyrie Irving to again leads a young talented roster to a deep playoff run but if last season with the Celtics was a indicator of what is to come doesn’t make this season so promising for the Nets.D’Angelo Russell: Despite the Nets great they had to part ways with young all star D’Angelo Russell who was sent to the Warriors to make room for Kevin Durant.
Russell had a high demand going into free agency but didn’t land in a situation that would benefit him like Minnesota or Phoenix.Instead Russell is potentially an odd fit with the Warriors for the moment. Hopefully at some point during the season Russell is moved to place where he can be utilized like the Suns or Timberwolves to continue his growth.
