Little behind with the writings for attack the glass but with the NBA offseason wrapping up quickly I would like to go over the winners and losers of the NBA Draft and Free agency. So, I’ll begin with the NBA draft winners and losers.

NBA Draft Winners

Orlando Magic:  Believe it or not the Orlando Magic had some good luck on draft night. The good fortune resulted in drafting Gonzaga’s star guard Jalen Suggs and Michigan’s swingman Franz Wagner instead of going for their usual 6’10 and up long athletic forwards who couldn’t shoot or create offensively. With those 2 picks the future looks promising in Orlando.

Cleveland Cavaliers:  Another team with some good luck that night was the Cavs who made the correct choice for once and drafted USC’s big man Evan Mobley as a future building block to go alongside with Darius Garland will make a promising duo in Cleveland for years to come.

Brooklyn Nets:  Last and unexpectedly the Nets were big winners on draft night, selecting 2 quality players in LSU’s Cameron Thomas and UNC’s Day’Ron Shape to improve the bench that needed some fixing after falling short in the playoffs last season.

NBA Draft Losers

San Antonio Spurs: The San Antonio Spurs streak of bad luck seems to be continuing with head scratching selection of Alabama’s Josh Primo with the 12th pick. With various other options available at that time picking Primo was the least likely option for the Spurs and their future.

Minnesota Timberwolves: The T’Wolves woes continue as they missed out on crucial draft thanks to the infamous D’Angelo Russell trade with the Warriors gave the Warriors that pick only prolonging the struggle of the lifeless Timberwolves.

Davion Mitchell:  The biggest loser in this draft was Baylor’s Davion Mitchell who had the unfortunate privilege of being selected by the Sacramento Kings who clearly have no idea what their doing by drafting Mitchell when the previous year they drafter guard Tyrese Haliburton creating a situation between Mitchell, Haliburton and De’Aaron Fox going into training camp, stupid is as stupid does is the punchline for the Kings with this draft pick but hope Mitchell can overcome the circumstances.

Now we go on the Free agency winners & losers.

Free Agency Winners

Chicago Bulls: The Bulls absolutely went for broke this offseason with acquiring Lonzo Ball (Most Improved Player calling it now), Alex Caruso and DeMar DeRozan all to up with Zach LaVine can make for a promising season in the Windy City this upcoming year.

Miami Heat: The Heat did the right thing acquiring Kyle Lowry from the Toronto Raptors for little to nothing, adding Lowry alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo make the Heat an immediate top half contender of the eastern conference next season.

Russell Westbrook:  Somehow some way Russell Westbrook lucked out of a bad situation into a potentially great situation with landing back home in Los Angeles with the Lakers, this move could make the Lakers title contenders depending on how well the chemistry between him, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James pan out.

Free Agency Losers

Boston Celtics: The Celtics came up a little short this summer especially acquiring a point guard that would gel with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s timeline. Now they picked up Dennis Schroder who also is a loser this offseason but leaves the Celtic roster limbo despite moving off the expensive Kemba Walker contract only to acquire the slightly less expensive contract of Al Horford in return.

Portland Trailblazers: Dame Time is winding down in Portland especially with the lack of moves made this offseason has the Blazers looking some sort of foolish and should be counting down the days until Damian Lillard decides he has had enough and demands a trade OUT of Portland setting everything into a rebuild mode by doing so.

Ben Simmons:  The Ben Simmons’ trade rumors did no justice for him as he has yet to trade from the 76ers leaving a potentially violate situation brewing when training camp starts here soon. Perhaps its time for “Genius” GM Daryl Moray to lessen his expectations of a trade package for Simmons and start to reevaluate the possibilities to move Simmons and get some value back before it’s too late.
