We’ve hit the midway point of the season (or a little over that), and while the “mainstream” media might be looking at the usual suspects, we’re doing things a little differently here. From the MVP race to the teams that make League Pass worth the subscription, here is the official mid-season report.

The MVP at Mid-Season

Jaylen Brown: The clear frontrunner. He’s playing with a level of aggression and efficiency that has pushed him past “star” into “dominant force” territory.

Cade Cunningham: The engine of the Pistons’ turnaround. He’s finally getting the flowers he deserves.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Still the most consistent bucket in the league.

Defensive Player at Mid-Season (The “Non-Wemby” Division)

Winner: Amen Thompson

Let’s be honest, Victor is in his own galaxy. But if we’re talking about the best defender on this planet, it may be Amen Thompson. His ability to disrupt passing lanes, provide good rim protection, and his elite athleticism as a guard is one of the league’s greatest “cheat codes.”

The Sixth Man & The Rookie at Mid-Season

Sixth Man at Mid-Season: Isaiah Stewart

“Beef Stew” has embraced the spark-plug role perfectly. He’s bringing a physical edge to the second unit that changes the momentum of games.

Honorable Mention: Anthony Black (It was a coin toss).

Best Rookie at Mid-Season: VJ Edgecombe

Edgecombe has translated his game to the pros faster than anyone expected. The explosiveness is as advertised, but his poise is what’s winning him this award.

Coaching & Improvement

Best Coach at Mid-Season: Jordan Ott

Ott has maximized his roster and installed a culture back in Phoenix that’s clearly paying dividends. He has his guys playing hard every single night.

Most Improved Player: Deni Avdija

The jump in Deni’s offensive confidence has been one of the season’s best storylines. He’s evolved from a “glue guy” into a primary playmaker that has made the Blazers a potential play in team.

Most Improved Teams: San Antonio Spurs & Detroit Pistons

Both franchises have officially left the “basement” and are playing winning basketball.

The “League Pass” Team: Charlotte Hornets

They are absolutely baffling, which is exactly why you can’t look away. One night they look like a playoff sleeper, the next they are pure chaos. It’s “must-watch” TV for all the wrong (and right) reasons.

The “League Pass” Player: Victor Wembanyama

Because obviously. Every time he steps on the court, you might see something that has never happened in a game when Wemby is on TV and is deserving of appointment television or viral moments.
