The summer Olympics kicked off this weekend and that means some fun stuff to see in men’s basketball, I expect the USA women’s national team to continue their dominance winning another gold medal. But for the men’s it will not be that easy with all the international talent leveling up over the years, so here are my takes on what to watch for and what may happen over the next couple of weeks in Paris.

Teams to watch out for: Germany & Spain

The two countries that should considered dangerous sleepers for ruining any countries medal hope it absolutely should Germany and Spain. Germany has good NBA talent that are afraid of team USA but also have the experience and chemistry of playing together lead by guard Dennis Schroder who will be up for the big games. Then there is Spain who may not have the big names like previous teams had but their chemistry will be a great advantage for them to upset some teams in Paris this summer.

Breakout Players to Watch

Dyson Daniels (Australia)

Dennis Schroder (Germany)

Anthony Edwards (USA)

Medal Winners

Gold: USA

USA will win the gold medal if…

Injuries do not come back to haunt this team and are durable, specifically the trio of Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, and Joel Embiid. All three have well documented injury histories that do not give much confidence that they will make through this unharmed, while LeBron and Steph are spear heading this team how much Steve Kerr can depend on KD, AD, and Embiid will be pivotal to if team USA can bring home the gold this summer.

Silver: Canada

Canada will win the gold medal if…

If Jamal Murray is healthy and shows up every game simple as that. Murray is coming into these games injured but is expected to be one of the top players to lead a promising team Canada to medal in Paris. I wanted to go with Canada doing the unthinkable and win the gold medal but Murray’s uncertainty health wise and lack of size made me go with our neighbors to the north winning the silver instead of gold.

Bronze: France

France will win the gold medal if…

The guards/perimeter players deliver offensively, obviously the Gobert/Wembanyama duo will the best defensive force in these games as well as Wembanyama being a massive x-factor that could flip everything, but the French perimeter players are going to have to step up offensively if France wants to win and celebrate in a big way in Paris.
